The idea for Punshurt started when we noticed that the pronunciation of "puns hurt" is similar to the wording of "pun shirt". Thus, we had a pun in and of itself, and from there we expanded the idea by deciding to illustrate puns for t-shirts. Our style of humor just didn't match that of most of the "funny" t-shirts on the internet, so we went to work on creating some that do match our sense of humor, and this company is the result.

We get our ideas from a multitude of different places, from lists of compound words to the surreal dream, we collect a list of puns that we decide would be illustratable. One very influential author helped us begin to appreciate puns and how they could take a life of their own. Piers Anthony, and more specifically, his series Xanth helped us with our development of visual puns.

Once we get our ideas for the shirt (or other apparel), we have to actually design them. To begin the process we search through a stock photo site and find useful images to help us make the design as proportional as possible. Then, using a vector editing program, we go about using the images as models for our designs. We then upload our designs to our t-shirt manufacturer's site where you can then place them on any product you would like, and quickly order them for yourself. Also helping to bring Punshurt to you is our free webhost.
